Rose Lee Williams was born on September 26, 1940, to John and Rosezelia Green in Natchitoches, Louisiana. She was one of nine children and the first girl in her family. Rose graduated from Central High in Natchitoches, Louisiana.
Known lovingly as "Mama Rose, Rosie or Momma," she was a virtuous and loving mother who always spoke positively about everyone, regardless of their circumstances. She loved her church, Kirkwood Temple, She Love serving in the church. She was especially giving of her time and of herself. She was a soft-spoken, God-fearing, and genuinely lovable person. Momma Rose would always kneel to pray every night before she goes to sleep, and every meal, small or large.
Momma Rose was very soft spoken; I mean “Very SOFT” spoken; you would have to lean in to listen extremely hard. She did not raise her voice for anything. And you heard what and knew what she said. If Momma Rose was mad, you would never know.
Mama Rose had a passion for singing, she and her sister and brothers were known as The Golden Girls and School Boy. She loved listening to music, such as “The Canton Spiritual, Lee Williams and a host of quartets singers and Groups”. She was a member of the National Gospel Quartet Association, and recorded songs with Malico Records. But what she loved the most was King George but did not understand what he was saying.
Her best friend and confidante was her daughter, Meko Williams, with whom she shared countless joyous moments. Mama Rose had a deep love for sports, especially basketball and football. She had an uncanny ability to predict the outcomes of games and was an avid traveler, covering more ground than most could ever imagine. In her later years, she continued to travel extensively, from coast to coast. She will be truly missed by all who knew her.
Rose was preceded in death by her father, John Green; her mother, Rosezelia Green: Johnny Lee, John Jr, Joanne Middleton, Alfa Henderson, Joyce Green, and Bubba Green. She leaves behind to cherish her memory: her brothers, Jack Green and Earl Green; her sons, Isaac Jr., Kevin, Michael, and Kendall; her daughter, Tamiko; and grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family, and many dear friends. Mama Rose’s legacy of love, kindness, and strength will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
