Don Wayne Davis was born on November 11, 1955, in Memphis, Texas, to Vincent Davis and Mae Bell Jackson, who preceded him in death. He was the youngest son of fifteen children—nine brothers and six sisters—and was cherished deeply by his large and loving family.
Don was also preceded in death by his brothers Charles Davis, Clyde Davis, Roy Davis, Walter Davis, Richard Davis, and Joe Vincent, and by his sisters Maxine Walker, Margarett Wilis, and Alma Davis.
At an early age, Don accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and was baptized at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Memphis, Texas. His walk with God became the foundation of his life. Don loved the Lord wholeheartedly; his days were marked by compassion, generosity, and a quiet but powerful devotion that radiated through every act of kindness.
To those who loved him, the words of 2 Timothy 4:7 reflect the life he lived: “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” Don kept his faith until the very end, and now rests in the loving arms of his Savior.
A proud graduate of Memphis High School’s Class of 1975, Don’s success on the high school football field helped spark a lifelong passion for the Dallas Cowboys. He carried that joy with him wherever he lived—often laughing and calling himself “a Cowboys fan living in Kansas”—and he cheered for them with the same spirited dedication he brought to everything he loved.
Driven by his commitment to help and uplift others, Don later relocated to Dallas, Texas, to pursue a degree in nursing. Eventually, he made Wichita, Kansas, his home, where he became a devoted member of the New Testament Church. His faith was not limited to worship services—it flowed into his daily life. Don spent countless hours serving his community and was instrumental in establishing a neighborhood watch program, working tirelessly to protect, support, and unify those around him. His gentle leadership made him a trusted presence and a true pillar in his neighborhood.
Those who knew Don will forever remember his big heart, his unwavering faith, and his joyful spirit. He was always ready with a helping hand, a prayer, or an encouraging word. Whether volunteering, checking on neighbors, or celebrating a Cowboys win, Don’s warmth lit up every room and every life he entered. He lived his faith openly and humbly, a living testimony of God’s love in action.
Don leaves to cherish his memory his son, Don Dewayne Davis of Quitaque, TX; two daughters, Teresa (Christopher) Walter of Cedar Hill, TX, and Denise (Cecil) Thomas of Lancaster, TX; and his siblings Dorothy Williams of Childress, TX; Frank Davis of Dallas, TX; Virvian Hakim of Dallas, TX; Louis Davis of Midland, TX; and Patsy Davis of Arlington, TX.
He is also remembered by his granddaughter, Shawna Brooke Davis of Turkey, TX; grandson, Tristan Walter of Cedar Hill, TX; great-grandson, Kairo Mayteo of Turkey, TX; and a host of nieces, nephews, family members, church family, and dear friends who loved him deeply.
Don Wayne Davis’s life was a beautiful testimony of faith, love, and service. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched, the community he strengthened, and the love he shared so freely. Though he has gone home to be with the Lord, his light continues to shine in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him.
