Catherine Louise King was born January 14, 1951 to her parents Bennie R. King and Emma
Kate King of Nevada, TX. Within that union was born 13 children and 2 adopted children.
Catherine graduated from W.H. Adamson High School in 1969 and continued her education at
Los Angeles Junior College, OIC Trade School, and Westwood College. In 1975, Catherine
began her career with Blue Cross Blue Shield as an abstract clerk in Richardson, TX. There she
retired in 2004.
At an early age, Catherine joined Greater Ideal Missionary Baptist Church. She then joined
Christian Workers Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Thelma Harris, Rev. E.L. Thomas
and later Pastor Freddie King. Catherine tried to fight it but couldn't any longer and answered
the call to become an Evangelist in 2003. She was a faithful and dedicated member, serving the
church as the Announcement Clerk, Sunday School teacher, Youth Director, Unity District
Assistant Youth Director, Creator of the CWBC Fashion Show, and Minister.
Catherine is preceded in death by her parents Bennie King Sr. and Emma Kate King. Siblings
Brothers - Curtis Lewis, Bennie King Jr., Louis King and Tommy King; Sisters - Mary Jackson,
Lila Curling, Darcine Bowman, Virginia (Tina) King, and Katie McAfee.
Catherine leaves to cherish her loving memory, 5 siblings - Jessie King, Jimmy King, Freddie
King, Ollie King and Teresa King. 3 children- David King, Tamu Brown (Steven Brown), and
Stanton King, 6 grandchildren Stephenie King-Brown Mayes (Bishop Hollie Mayes), Tamerika
Brown, Chardanai Parker, Alexis Crawford, Brandi King, and Jasmine Embry (Joshua Embry), 7
great grandchildren Halle Mayes aka Lil Baby, Hollie Mayes II aka Pooh Bear, Carin Mayes,
Kendall Mayes, Ja’haad Mayes, Jordyn Smith, Jade Embry and a host of nieces, nephews,
cousins, church family and friends.
Catherine also known as Aunt Buggie, GG, and Minister King was truly loved and will be missed
by all. She was quiet and reserved, but when she spoke her presence filled the room. She spent
her life looking for ways to help others, never saying no to a person in need. God came down
and picked one of his most beloved children to join him in his garden. Her kindness will live on
forever.
